Whereas many of the same “infinite” or “saturation” metal element reference materials provided in the “Infinites and Bases” lists are also presented here, this list includes in addition, “infinite” element standards in a powdered compound form which is compressed under high pressure into a solid pellet to facilitate handling for XRF measurement. Compounds of certain elements are used since there are some metallic and non-metallic elements which are not available in a cost effective elemental form or are simply not safe or practical to test by XRF in their pure elemental state (e.g., Br). Again these standards are used to normalize calibrations, provide a blank base to place beneath certified foil standards for calibration, obtain reference spectra for deconvolution operations, allow derivation of fundamental parameter coefficients and enhance qualitative analysis.
